Neuralink has livestreamed on X a patient, who is known to be the first human patient receiving the chip implant, playing online chess.
Who is Neuralink’s First Human Patient
Noland Arbaugh, 29, who has been paralyzed below shoulder due to a diving accident, plays a vital role with being the first human patient to volunteer for Neuralink’s brain-computer interface technology implanted on.
Yesterday, on live, he demonstrated how he plays online chess by commanding the mouse on screen with his mind only. “Basically, it was like using ‘the Force’ on the cursor, and I could get it to move wherever I wanted. Just stare somewhere on the screen and it would move where I wanted it to, which was such a wild experience the first time it happened”, Arbaugh said.

I’d recommend you to read the comments below the livestream video. They are amazing! Such as congratulating Norah and the Neuralink team, leaving comment that they hereby watched the evolution of human being and so… I, too, believe that we are going through a major twist in the capability of human mind with its merger with technology.
The Timeline of Neuralink
2017
Neuralink, the brain-computer interface (BCI) start-up’s launch became publicly heard. Elon Musk defines his vision as helping patients overcome paralysis and a host of neurological conditions with the advancement of neural interface technology. It’s stated exclusively on Neuralink’s website with following words: ‘The goal of enabling people with paralysis to directly use their neural activity to operate computers and mobile devices with speed and ease.’
2019
The start-up stayed still for 2 years, until when it made its first public outing, ‘Neuralink Launch Event’. It was a livestream presentation held by no other than, Elon Musk and his team.
2020
A livestream presentation showed the neural activities of an experiment pig, called Gertie (short for Gertrude:). Gertie has been living for 2 months with the chip.

2021
Neuralink shared a video of monkey, Pager playing MindPong by using a brain commanded joystick.
Animal testing welfare NGOs filed a lawsuit against Neuralink. Afterwards, Neuralink had to share a public announcement for their commitment to animal welfare.
2022
Neuralink formed their own internal IACUC (Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee) to oversee the ethical use of animals in their researches.
2023
Neuralink announced its approval from The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, for the human trial recruitment and called out volunteers for patient registry: ‘Neuralink’s First-in-Human Clinical Trial is Open for Recruitment’
2024
In January, the first human patient had the Neuralink’s chimp implant operation.
In March, the patient demonstrated his ability to operate a mouse with his brain.
Next? We are curiously waiting for Musk’s next move. I’ll keep you posted on my blog
